The Australian Taxation Office announced earlier this year that the 80 cent per hour work from home deduction shortcut method will remain in place until 30 June 2021.
The shortcut method was introduced in April 2020 as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic and was initially due to expire in September 2020, but was extended until 31 December 2020 and now 30 June 2021.

The latest extension was in response to the Northern Beaches COVID-19 cluster that occurred over Christmas and New Years.
Since this latest extension, there have been no further indications from the ATO that the shortcut method will be extended again.
The 80 cent per hour shortcut method will continue to be in place alongside the 52 cent per hour fixed rate method and the actual cost method of calculating home office expenses.
For more information on calculating home office expenses for tax deduction purposes, visit the ATO website.
